Pest Control Tips
Attract beneficial predators to your garden to help control pests. Birds love worms.
Healthy Plants
The first line of defense against unruly pests is to have healthy plants. Healthy plants are always more resistant to pests and diseases because, just like humans, they have their own defense system which becomes weakened by stress.
Companion Planting
In and around the entire garden, add combinations of annual marigolds, perennial calendula, lavender, petunias, nasturtium, thyme, oregano, potted mint, basil, chives, sage, cilantro, parsley, dill, and any culinary herb you like to use or flowers you enjoy. Many of these plants either repel unwanted pests, act as sacrifices, or cloak the presence of your crops. There are exceptions but for the most part, diversity and intermingling benefit the garden.Â
Beneficial Predators
The great thing about regenerative gardening is that every part of it encourages beneficial predators. Spiders, ladybugs, pirate bugs, green lacewing, spined soldier bugs, ground beetles, parasitic wasps, assassin bugs, hoverflies, dragonflies, toads, birds, and praying mantis love gardens. But all these beneficial predators will only visit a garden if there is food for them and hopefully their food happens to be your pests. And, if you don’t kill them.
